A retailer.

The chief executive of a major DIY company.

What’s the best thing about your job?
Being in a position where I’m able to change the way things are done.

What’s the toughest thing about your job?
Trying to get buy-in to change.

What was your biggest work/career mistake and what did you learn from it?
Thinking that I was capable of being a property lawyer. I eventually learnt that there’s only so much detail I can cope with.

What car do you drive?
Honda S2000.

What book are you currently reading?
When I’m relaxing in the hot tub I’ll read any crime novel; when I can concentrate it’s Hilary Clinton’s autobiography Living History.

What’s on your CD player at the moment?
Ray Charles.

What’s your favourite children’s book?
I’m too old to remember what I enjoyed as a kid, but Dr Seuss’s The Cat in the Hat is still a hit with the grandchildren.
