What was your worst experience as a trainee?
Being pursued on my way home by an irate husband of a divorce client. I managed to lose him by some nifty driving.

Where’s the best place to go if you want to find out what’s really going on in the office?
In the staff kitchen during the telephonists’ coffee break.

What time do you usually leave the office?
Between 6.30pm and 8.00pm, but pre-holiday between 10.00pm and midnight.

What do you do at weekends?
Running, gardening, wining and dining and being involved in my local church.

What’s your favourite restaurant?
Bottaccio, near Pisa (preferably after a good year); but more generally the Kushboo Indian restaurant in Burton Latimer.

If you weren’t a lawyer, what would you have been?
Successful.

Who was your mentor or role model?
My father for his punctuality, obsession with clean shoes and his integrity.

What’s the best thing about your job?
The people – and 6.30pm on Friday.

What’s the toughest thing about your job?
Satisfying some of my partners, some of the time.

What’s your biggest work/career mistake and what did you learn from it?
Attending my first formal law dinner in a lounge suit. Lesson learnt: always have a bow tie in the glove compartment.

What car(s) do you drive?
Whichever one is left on the drive, particularly when student daughters are home.

What book are you currently reading?
Rosemary Conley’s Whole Body Programme. I only got to chapter two of Stephen Covey’s The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People: Powerful Lessons in Personal Change.

What’s on your CD player at the moment?
Aerobics Whilst You Drive and Phil Collins: Hits.

What’s your favourite children’s book?
The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by CS Lewis.
