Tulkinghorn has often been described as dapper, even wearing nothing but a smoking jacket and a smile. But solicitors and barristers alike have been taking style to new levels.

Tulkinghorn has learnt that the lawyers at ­Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer and the barristers of 39 Essex Street have made it into Maxim’s list of the top 10 best-dressed businessmen.

Freshfields came in at number three, while 39 Essex Street crashed into the top 10 at number eight, with senior barrister Stuart Catchpole QC being ­singled out for particular praise.
The esteemed middle-shelf men’s magazine writes: “Trademark waistcoats and chalk stripes are a feature, with silks such as Stuart ­Catchpole QC picking handmade, two-piece, ­single-breasted suits.”

Tulkinghorn congratulates Stuart, but is also wondering whether he made a special effort for the Maxim ­journalist and actually dons Primark tracksuit bottoms when no one’s looking.
