The names to watch

As with the silks, the juniors who stand out from the crowd come from a wide range of chambers. This list is not exhaustive but is based on the subjective recommendations of leading criminal practitioners who instruct in both general crime and fraud cases.
At 3 Hare Court, a number of talented juniors come highly recommended. The "enthusiastic" senior junior Charles Conway is singled out for his "precision" and ability "to see the wood for the trees". Timothy Kendal is said to have a "superb intellect" and is "very shrewd" and James Sturman, Mark Milliken-Smith and Peter Lodder are also highly rated.
Richard Kovalevsky from 18 Red Lion Court goes from "strength to strength" and is praised for his "flair" and "willingness to take on difficult points". David Green is praised for his "enormous experience across a broad range of cases" and Max Hill impresses with his "diligence and commitment".
At 14 Tooks Court, Vera Baird makes it into The Lawyer's Top 5 and her colleagues Stephen Camlish and Anne Shamash are also commended.
Michael Bromley-Martin at 3 Raymond Buildings is said to be "an absolute gem" and the junior junior Helen Malcolm is tipped as a "star of the future", being "equally adept at fraud and extradition", "always available" and "a pleasure to work with". Another "rising star" at this set is Campaspe Lloyd-Jacob.
At Queen Elizabeth Building, John Kelsey-Fry is "very laid back and unflappable" and "always a delight to work with" and Sean Larkin is "very shrewd and tactically aware" and is tipped as "one to watch out for".
Benedict Emmerson at Doughty Street Chambers is another in The Lawyer's Top 5. From the same set, Andrew Hall is praised as having "an extrodinary forensic legal mind" and Tim Owen is said to be "outstanding" with a "a very sharp intellect". Jill Evans is also well regarded.
At Cloisters, Michael Turner "always holds his own corner impressively" and is "equally impressive with judge, jury and client".
Gareth Rees at Hollis Whiteman Chambers gets several recommendations and is said to be "meticulous" and "always thoroughly prepared".
Stephen Winberg, of the Chambers of Richard Ferguson QC at Crown Office Row, "sees a case from every angle" and is very "creative and committed in court", with a "calmness of approach" which makes him a winner with clients.
At Two Garden Court, the leading junior Henry Blaxland is said to have "more experience in miscarriage of justice cases than any other in the UK", and "is streets ahead of most QCs in this area of law".
At Two Dr Johnson's Buildings, Mark Tomassi is "highly recommended". Over at 3 Gray's Inn Square, Diana Ellis stands out for her "attention to detail" and because "judges like her".
Aftab Jafferjee from 2 Harcourt Buildings is "a very clear advocate", "intellectually first rate" and "crisp in presentation". Patrick Gibbs, also from this set is recommended for his "clarity and depth".
At Anthony Donne QC's 2 King's Bench Walk, Michael Bowes stands out as "a most incisive junior", while at Michael Worsley QC's 6 King's Bench Walk Sasha Wass, Dean Armstrong, Duncan Penny and Jason Dunn-Shaw are all recommended. At 10 King's Bench Walk Trevor Burke is said to be "liked by jurors" and the "intelligent and cunning" David Nathan is "hard to out-fox".
