The Midlands: The new Middle East

Bespoke and cost effective. No, A Suit That Fits isn’t opening yet another store (although, it probably is); this, dear readers, is the banner under which Trowers & Hamlins is opening in Birmingham.

The City firm is set to open shop in the Midlands on 4 July, and it will dip its toe once more into the affordable housing sector and offer lower cost legal services to local clients. And its already made a couple of lateral hires from Shoosmiths to help staff the office (see story).

Trowers will no doubt be happy to shift its focus onto all things Brummie after its Middle East practice weathered a storm of criticism last month following the closure of its Jeddah office and spate of departures from the rest of the region (see story).

The Birmingham partners probably won’t care too much about the Middle East issues, instead rejoicing in a UK network that also includes the exotic locations of Exeter and Manchester. The new office might not be Trowers’ most exciting yet, but at least it might be a tad more successful than Saudi.
