  • Pupillage portal opened yesterday and I found myself again lamenting why I'm doing this to myself. Let's quit law. Not really, I love it.

  • Woooow - this not only allows a law student to face reality, but also encourages every law student to have the confidence to face that reality. Great piece! :D

  • I've tried to read this twice, but I'm not sure that it's in a language decipherable by humans.

  • I agree entirely with Gary! This article is so badly written - I think the writer was 'trying too hard'.

  • Sorry but what utter rubbish. Does the writer actually work in law? Be prepared to be treated badly by firms claiming they have no choice because of the state of the economy, be ready to realise that you can be replaced very quickly and be prepared to accept that the things you wanted to do at uni are in all likelihood, never going to happen.

From a trainee working in a large commercial firm for 5 years.

  • I also agree with Gary's amusing comment. The writer has found a ridiculous metaphor and has not let go of it. I think she should drive her scooter off a cliff!

  • I must congratulate the author for this well written piece of work. Unlike gary and those who agree with him, being a prospective university student today is a completely different experience than being one 5 years ago. The article highlights the optimism which is necessary during these times of adversity and the reality that awaits graduates. As for the metaphor, i believe it works well - but that’s a matter of opinion!

  • "Getting to ones destination"? Good use of grammar there.

Also, if reading 35 pages of case law is met with dismay, then I'm not sure law is for you.

  • It's no wonder top law firms don't go to uni's like City if that is the standard of writing.

  • I don't know about a journey to Lawyerdom, more like a journey to boredom!

  • A bit strange to bring City University into the picture based on one students' article, no? I don't think the writer is representative of an institute just because she studies there...

Gary and co seem to lack imagination. I don't see the harm in "riding" with a metaphor every now and again.

  • Good article- well expressed. Ignore the haters, they lack understanding.
