All the sciences.

What was your first job?

Washer up in the kitchens at Debenhams.

What was your first ever salary as a lawyer?

£9,500.

What would you have done if you hadn't been a lawyer?

Senior washer up at Debenhams.

What was your most satisfying professional moment?

Every time a client leaves my office feeling better than they did when they arrived.

What was your most embarrassing professional moment?

Entering court as bold as brass ready for a hearing which had just taken place while I'd been dozing outside.

What do you least like about being a lawyer?

People (wrongly) assuming glamour, riches and a blameless private life.

And the best thing about being a lawyer?

The daily variety and the ability to occasionally make a difference.

What annoys you most about clients?

Clients don't annoy me. Pompous and unimaginative fellow professionals (some on the bench) do.

Who do you admire most, and why?

Barbara Streisand - the consummate star.

Which famous person or historical figure would be your ideal client, and why?

Kelly Brook from The Big Breakfast - no reason in particular.

What is your most annoying habit?

Mumbling.

What is your biggest fear?

Poor health.

How do you relax?

In addition to the obvious, playing the piano and watching Charlton Athletic.

What is your most precious possession?

My health.

Where would you most like to be right now?

Anywhere, making music.

In 10 years' time, where do you see yourself?

Working in a law centre two afternoons a week and writing another William Selling album.
