Eric Galbraith is head of the corporate department at Dorman Jeffrey & Co's Glasgow office, a solely commercial law practice with offices in both Edinburgh and Glasgow. He was born in Glasgow in 1959 and still lives in the city.
What was your first job?
Pierhand (later promoted to Purser!).
What was your first ever salary as a lawyer?
£4,200 per annum.
What would you have done if you hadn't become a lawyer?
Been either a stuntman or a florist.
Which law could you live without?
The one(s) I don't know, so that obscure questions at dinner parties which one is expected to know the answer to don't arise.

Who inspires you?
Any honest person with character.
What's the best thing on TV?
A tasteful ornament, Saab adverts and anything which doesn't require a brain but isn't a soap.
Which movie do you wish you'd appeared in?
'Gone with the Wind'.
What makes you seethe?
People who don't give a damn; City firms with the attitude that they have a divine right to all deals worth more than 2/6d.
What's your most often-worn piece of clothing?
A rather fetching pair of scarlet socks.
What is the worst piece of architecture?
You won't have enough space for the answer.
What book(s) are you reading at the moment?
My Saab owner's manual and the new John Grisham book.
What is your all-time favourite record?
An Italian Opera.; Fleetwood Mac's 'Albatross'; The Doors' 'Light my Fire'.
What piece of advice would you give to anyone entering the profession now?
Be more than just a good lawyer - social and business skills are imperative.
Where would you most like to be right now?
Enjoying a bottle of wine and a cigar somewhere in Tuscany.
Where do you see yourself in five years' time?
Doing stunts in a remake of 'Gone with the Wind', but if I don't pass the audition, another completion meeting.
