Dishwasher in a seafood restaurant.

What was your first ever salary as a lawyer?

u6 per week.

What would you have done if you hadn't become a lawyer?

I would have accepted the place I was offered at Sandhurst.

Which law could you happily live without?

The Child Support Act.

Mercedes 230 E.

Who inspires you?

People who are able to come through an experience like a miscarriage of justice without bitterness and with a desire to prevent it happening to others.

What's the best thing on TV?

News and current affairs programmes.

Which movie do you wish you'd appeared in?

Anything with Joanna Lumley in the cast.

What makes you seethe?

Dishonesty, particularly intellectual dishonesty, dishonesty for "good operational reasons" or because of "security considerations".

What's your most-worn piece of clothing?

My winter anorak.

What in your opinion is the worst piece of architecture.

Ian Paisley's church.

What piece of advice would you give to anyone entering the profession now?

Have a second career you can take up, you may need it.

Where would you most like to be right now?

On a beach in Goa, under a palm tree, with one of those rum things that make your eyes go funny, allowing my mind the luxury of expanding from the constrictions of the modern practice.
