This year, The Lawyer’s annual ranking of the largest UK law firms by turnover is available as an interactive, digital benchmarking tool. For the first time this will allow you to manipulate each data set against the metrics of your choice.
The Lawyer today names the lawyers who will shape the profession in 2013 in the eagerly anticipated Hot 100 feature.
The full list, disclosed today (28 January), features transactional lawyers, litigators, in-house lawyers and the non-lawyer figures in the industry who have made a difference to the legal world over the past twelve months.
They include Baker & McKenzie partner Tom Cassels, who is currently advising the BBC Trust on the ongoing Jimmy Savile saga and RPC partner Keith Mathieson, who is a regular advisor to the Daily Mail publisher Associated Newspapers.
Also featured is Hodge & Jones & Allen partner Jocelyn Cockburn, partner of the year at The Lawyer Awards 2012, who acted for murder victim Stephen Lawrence’s father Neville Lawrence in his civil action again the Crown Prosecution Service.
Litigators include Kingsley Napley criminal litigation head Stephen Parkinson, whose impressive client list has included Margaret Thatcher and John Major during the BSE Inquiry and Tony Blair and the rest of No 10 during the Hutton Inquiry.
From the in-house community Commonwealth Games head of legal Shonagh MacVicar is featured, alongside in-house counsel from the BBC, Sarah Jones, and FIFA IP legal counsel and head of trademark registration Alexia Willetts. Others include Tinu Adeshile, general counsel at the Islam Channel, who converted to Islam while working for the broadcaster.
Stars of the bar include Brick Court’s Tim Lord QC, who is acting for two separate claimantsin cases againat Barclays Bank this year, and Monckton Chambers’ Melanie Hall QC, who acted for HM Revenue & Customs in its successful case against sandwich chain Subway.
The final list, published every year, follows months of research by The Lawyer’s editorial team into candidates’ client work and contribution to their firms and the profession.
For the first time, this year’s list comes with video interviews with most participants, the first of which are accessible via the main Hot 100 page.
