The Lawyer Golf Challenge

For all those budding Tigers (the golfer, that is) out there, The Lawyer, in association with recruitment consultants Hughes-Castell, invites you to put on those Rupert Bear trousers, choose your caddy and club carefully and enter the first ever Lawyer Golf Challenge.

The Challenge will tee off with a number of regional play-offs which will take place during the summer and lead to a grand final which will take place on Friday 3 October at Woburn Golf and Country Club near Milton Keynes.

Woburn Club is the prestigious home of many professional championships including the Dunhill British Open and the Ladies Open, so if you think your swing ranks among those at the top, be sure to enter.

The entry fee for the competition is only £30, and there will be no extra charges if you reach the final. All profits will go to our chosen charity.

The final in October will comprise of a Stableford medal competition to find the final winner in the morning, followed by a carvery lunch and then a relaxed foursomes competition in the afternoon. There will be prizes for both the winners and runners up.

This is likely to be the highlight of this summer's sporting events (apart from the odd cricket or rugby test, of course) so send your entry forms in early to avoid disappointment - and remember to bring an umbrella to cope with the great British summer.

RULES OF ENTRY

1 The competition is open to all lawyers from private practice, commerce and industry (in-house) and the public sector.

2 All competitors must have a current club handicap.

3 All competitors must have amateur status.

4 There will be a separate competition for men and women.

5 Rules of golf will be strictly applied as per the Royal & Ancient Course of St Andrews, Scotland.

4 In the event of any dispute, The Lawyer/Hughes-Castell committee's decision will be final and binding.

5 The qualifying rounds leading to the grand final will be comprised of individual Stableford competitions, with each competitor playing off 7/8ths of their handicap.

6 In the event of a tie the winner will be decided by counting back the person with the most points over the last nine holes. If there is still a tie it will be the person with the most points on the last six holes, then three and so on.

7 Competitors will be drawn on a regional basis for the knockout competition to minimise travel. Once the draw is made there will be a home and away draw for each pairing. The home competitor must select a local course of their choosing and must offer three dates to the away opponent. One of the dates offered must fall on a weekend and one day offered must fall on a weekday.

8 After each pairing is drawn The Lawyer will inform the competitors of a date by which their knockout competition must be completed.

9 Any matches not completed by this date will be null and void.

10 In the event of any player scratching from the matchplay stages, the opposition will automatically progress to the next round.

11 Entry fee payment must be cleared before any play commences.,
