  • How odd to see the comparatively small Carson McDowell, which only has an office in Belfast (Northern Ireland) making it onto the regional firm of the year list. Especially as Cleaver Fulton Rankin and L'Estrange and Brett are usually seen as the top two in NI.

  • Shouldn't this really be the Marketing Lawyer Awards - seeing how firms nominate themselves?

  • Ogier winning third spot has not gone down well in Jersey following its recent announcement to make 17 redundant. It is losing its way in Jersey like the previous law firm that occupied 44 Esplanade (Crills). I am not sure if all the other Jersey law firms entered but I am surprised by Bedell, Mourant and Ozannes not being listed - I suspect that they did not enter.

  • Those who complain about the London-centric nature of the awards miss the fact that London is the most significant centre for legal services in the UK, let alone all of Europe, and one of the most important commercial centres in the world so it is not at all surprising that London gets such billing.

  • London isn't the only legal centre. I appreciate that those firms who are named (probably) deserve recognition but the awards fail to recognise the talent that exists outside of London and have become stale.

  • The deals that take place outside of London do not have the magnitude and global significance of those that do. Fact.
There is already an award for regional/national law firm of the year so stop whining for goodness sake.
    Yaaawwwwnnnnnn !
“And the global lawyer of the year award goes to…… Mr McGee from Dundee for his outstanding probate work for Mrs McFee. Her Cat is most grateful.”

  • Not really sure when the last time you dealt with a firm in Belfast was. Legal market has changed slightly as Carson McDowell would be highly regarded along with Tughans and to a lesser extent L'Estrange and Bertt as the top three firms in the city.
PS the craic is mighty in Belfast.

  • The Lawyer Awards are to the majority of the profession what the world series is to UK baseball - unrepresentative, marginal, elitist and just plain irrelevant to real firms at the sharp end or anywhere outside of the city commuter belt. And if you muzzle me again over this you only prove my point!

  • Not sure why there are so many of you complaining about the London-centric vibe of the Awards. Haven't you regional lawyers got any work to do?
