  • Ogier - 3rd! After their performance this week in relation to their employees, they should have the third place taken away!

  • What a surprise - another year, another pile of nonsensey Londoncentric mutual backslapping.

Are London lawyers worried that clients might discover there is legal life outside the city, where they can get lawyers who are just as sharp for 1/3 of the price? The patronising "best regional firm (as long as you're in England) - well done YOU" category doesn't really help.

  • In total agreement with Esther.

Where are Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton for niche, Latham & Watkins for litigation, Skadden Arps or McCarthy Tétrault for International law firms? and Olswang for competition? Please. Cleary are the home of EU Competition laws, and still don't begin to scratch Herbert Smith's competition activity, yet somehow they've only been shortlisted

It's time you look beyond the Londoncentric and actually realise there're plenty of firms out there worth recognising.

How about some of the large continental European firms? Gianni, Origoni, Grippo & Partners? CMS Bureau Francis Lefebvre? Cuatrecasas? Haarmann Hemmelrath?

If none of these ring any bells you're not fit to hold Lawyer Awards. Ever.

  • Erm, I was actually thinking of British firms outside of London/England but I respect your thinking on an international scale, Zaid :o)

  • Zaid, you're not seriously suggesting Freshfields and Slaughter & May have crap competition teams are you?

  • Errrr,,, Haarman is an ex-firm. It has ceased to be.

  • It would be nice to have a "Trainee of the Year" award added to the roster.

  • How London-centric are these awards when Mr. Davis at Dewey & LeBoeuf gets into the top 3 of partner of the year? He's a NY partner who hardly sets foot in London.

  • This is very interesting but it is rather Londoncentric. An award for Regional Barrister and Regional Barristers chambers of the year would provide some greater balance and perhaps even interest.

  • And anything more than a passing reference to Scotland would be nice.
