At the invitation of techn-ology, media and telecoms head honcho Simon Rendell, freshly returned from his stint in-house at Vodafone, a veritable throng of tech industry bods of every description descended on the firm's appropriately high-tech new offices for a networking jamboree headed 'The Future of Telecoms'.
The chief attraction was The Carphone Warehouse's Charlie Dunstone. Also there were cutting-edge content provider Matt Heiman of Mobix Interactive (winner of the quip of the night award for telling the company boss, who wanted corporate information and training videos streamed to his employees' mobiles instead of J-Lo videos, that he "probably didn't run one of The Sunday Times' top 100 best companies to work for") and Vodafone's top lawyer Anthony Tabor.
But there's just no pleasing some people. Even as Rendell made his introduction and the people who were crammed in at the back craned their necks to listen, a wag from a bank could be heard saying: "I should think that this will take a slant towards the legal side of things near the end - at that point, I shall disappear."
