The Law Society's McIntosh slates Digby-Bell for 'maverick' behaviour

Digby-Bell was elected on to the Law Society Council to represent the interests of City lawyers with just under 1,000 City votes. Since then, he has been very vocal in announcing his own reform package for the Law Society. However, to the consternation of McIntosh and his supporters, Digby-Bell has not yet attended a single Law Society Council meeting in full to talk about his views.
Digby-Bell has organised a splinter group of City lawyers to come up with a reform package for the society. He claims to have 15 City lawyers backing him on the reforms. Their ideas include the appointment of a full-time, highly-paid executive president and the launch of an internal inquiry into the Kamlesh Bahl case with the results made public.
McIntosh said: "I think so far, Digby-Bell has come to the end of one meeting. He also did not attend the council conference last month. It is a great shame. I hope he can find a way to speak without being a maverick. Digby-Bell claims support from the majority of City lawyers, but apart from his group of 15, I cannot see who his supporters are."

Digby-Bell responded: "I suppose my non-attendance at council meetings is the one point McIntosh has against me, and what he has read into my non-attendance is a lack of interest and commitment. But I have made a huge investment of time and effort, including organising a weekend conference at my house for 15 City lawyers to discuss the reforms package."
Digby-Bell declined to identify the 15 City lawyers. "I would like to as there are some really important names there, but as most of my supporters are very senior members of top-100 City firms the issue is sensitive," he said.
