THE EUROPEAN Court of Justice’s role as a watchdog over European Commission decisions will come under discussion at a lecture organised by a Lincoln’s Inn set.

Judge Christopher Bellamy QC, the British Judge at the Court of First Instance, has agreed to deliver the fifth of a series of lectures being run by Hardwicke Building chambers.

The title of the judge’s lecture later this month is ‘The Court of Justice and the Court of First Instance - their Contemporary Role’.

Chief executive at the chambers Tony Wells said Judge Bellamy had been asked to speak about the role of the court in the light of the forthcoming European Union inter-governmental conference.

He said his lecture would focus on the role of the court “in controlling the legality of the decisions of the European Commission affecting individuals and companies”.

The lecture, to be chaired by Lord Slynn of Hadley, is on 28 November in the Old Hall in Lincoln’s Inn.
