Boston high-tech law firm Testa Hurwitz & Thibeault is reigniting the US salary war by hiking pay for assistants across the board.
All associates at the 300-lawyer firm will get an increase of $10,000 (£6,700), which will mean first-years go up to earning $150,000 (£100,000) a year.
Testa Hurwitz was the first firm outside California and New York to ramp up salaries last year, when Silicon Valley firms upped rates to $140,000 (£93,000).
Partner Tim Maguire, who is responsible for staffing at Testa Hurwitz, says: "The market is not so regional any more, and the nature of our practice is high-technology and venture capital-focused so we are very mindful of the northern California firms and we are also mindful of the New York firms from a regional standpoint."
