Lovells is closing its niche commodities and securities litigation practice in Chicago, a move that will lead to the departure of litigation partner Timothy Carey and two associates.
Carey and his team will join Gardner Carton & Douglas, a financial markets litigation practice, next month. The Chicago office has six other partners who concentrate on insurance and re-insurance.
Last year, the firm closed its consumer finance-focused Washington DC office as part of a broader strategy to concentrate on core profitable areas. As part of the closure, DC managing partner Anne Fortney moved with her team to Virginia consumer finance firm Hudson Cook.
Conversely, the firm has bulked up in New York, recruiting well-regarded ex-Clifford Chance litigation partner Joe Cyr, who joined the firm in April.
