Taylor Wessing (TW) claims to be one of the first global firms to crack the China market, being awarded a licence to open in Shanghai back in 1996. It now runs an office in Beijing, which advises on foreign direct investment, M&A, private equity, restructuring, banking and finance and real estate. The firm also claims that its office in the capital “maintains a close exchange with various government authorities on central and local levels”.

In 2012 the firm struck a joint venture deal with RHTLaw in Singapore. And the practice's biggest recent regional move was in Singapore, when in April 2013 it was reported to have brought on board corporate and securities specialist Richard Tan as a partner, having lured him from local firm Colin Ng & Partners.

A TW spokesperson says the firm is happy with maintaining its existing arrangement in Singapore and is not tempted yet by a full integration. The firm prefers to stand by its wider model in the region, combining local cultural and market knowledge with international capability and expertise.

In addition to the corporate and securities field, Taylor Wessing's Singapore offering focuses on banking and finance, intellectual property and technology, litigation and dispute resolution, and real estate.

The Asia Pacific profile is an edited version of a full write-up that appears in The Lawyer Asia Pacific 150, a comprehensive analysis of the legal market in the region that ranks the top 100 local firms and leading 50 international players by headcount.
