The European expansion of Taylor Wessing continued in November with the launch of a local law capability in Brussels.
Taylor Wessing has hired three partners from the former Belgian Landwell network member firm, Lawfort, to beef up its offering in the city. Until now the firm had maintained an EU and competition outpost serviced from London and Germany.
Marc Picat, a commercial and competition specialist who spent 15 years at Landwell and Lawfort, is the spearhead of the new team. He resigned from Lawfort in September.
Picat said Taylor Wessing’s European growth and global reach was the key attraction, singling out its China and Dubai arms specifically.
“In the Landwell international network now there is just France and Spain, as the others have all quit for regulatory reasons,” said Picat. “After two months here it is obvious that the network is really working.”
