Taylor Wessing promotes 17 to the partnership

Taylor Wessing has defied the economic slump by promoting 17 associates to its partnership, as many as Clifford Chance.
The promotions round was slightly smaller than the bumper 2008 crop of 19 new partners, but was more generous than in 2007, when 11 where made up.
Of the new partners, just three were in the UK - construction specialist Alistair Day and tax lawyer Rob Young in London, and IP lawyer Tim Worden in Cambridge.
The bulk of the promotions were in offices in France and Germany, with three each in Paris and Munich, and four in Hamburg.
The corporate practice won by far the highest number of new partners with six, all in Germany.
The IP department, which received five promotions last year, received just two in 2009.
UK managing partner Tim Eyles (pictured) said: “These promotions illustrate Taylor Wessing’s commitment to the continued investment in the future success of the firm.”
Earlier this week, Clifford Chance promoted 17 associates to partner, three of those in London. The delayed round saw significantly fewer new partners than in 2008, when 35 were made up.
