Taylor Wessing has established its first permanent presence in Dubai, which it hopes to expand after Christmas.
International arbitration head and construction partner Peter Shaw will be based in Dubai full time in the offices of Dubai firm Key & Dixon, with which Taylor Wessing has had a formal association since 2002.
The main areas of work for the firm are arbitration, projects and Islamic finance. Shaw is also involved with forging closer ties with the Dubai authorities.
Dubai is an increasingly important financial centre on the global stage. On 20 September its recently established free zone area, the Dubai International Financial Centre, issued three licences to operate to Standard Chartered and the Gulf Cooperation Centre. A further 20 are expected to be issued by the end of 2004.
