The award for pompous correspondent of the week goes to one E Askew, who addressed The Lawyer thus: “Point of order, Liverpool is the North West’s LARGEST city.”
E Askew was responding, with barely held-back ire, to last week’s story on Halliwells’ impending merger with Liverpool-based Cuff Roberts. The firm was, it read, breaking into the North West’s second-largest city through a merger with the Mersey-based outfit.
“Sirs,” went the rant, “your article was misleading, Liverpool is the North West’s LARGEST city, look at the recent census and you will see that it has a larger population than Manchester. Please correct this error.” Consider it done, Askew.
