US technology company Sybase has appointed Helle Jorgensen as its new UK general counsel.
Jorgensen joins from Palo Alto-based financial software house Tibco Software, where she was a senior UK legal counsel.
She will report in to Europe, the Middle East and Asia (Emea) general counsel Jonathan Carter Shaw, who in turn reports to overall general counsel Dan Carl in the US. The company's legal team numbers 30 in total.
The top 10 largest global banks and financial institutions use Sybase software to trade on Wall Street and the London Stock Exchange.
Jorgensen spent one year at Tibco, before which she was at Clerkenwell niche firm Miller Rosenfalck, which specialises in commercial matters for UK and Scandinavian companies.
Jorgensen has Danish origins and is dual-qualified as a Danish advokat and a UK solicitor. She specialises in IP law and has lectured at the University of Copenhagen.
Sybase's UK general counsel position had been open for several months, with Carter Shaw taking on the responsibilities.
Sybase would not comment on which law firms it uses, but in the US the company has used Baker Botts for IP disputes.
