  • I am interested to see the figures for bankruptcy in relation the Bar. I write as the former wife of a leading Midlands criminal silk who informed me in February 2013, without any warning, that he had been made bankrupt. Overnight I lost financial support which had been agreed for my 29 years of being a full time mother of our four children and the support that gave him to pursue his career. It then became apparent that solicitors dealing with the divorce had not lodged the consent order as instructed, so a negligence claim is in in process. To add to the farce the firm through which the trustee in bankruptcy had been appointed had also recently been taken into administration. What a shambolic legal mess with little honour, competence or justice to be found. A comedy of errors. To retain my home I have started a bed and breakfast business business with just two bedrooms and suggest that is a way forward for the criminal Bar to supplement their meagre incomes. A discount is available for bookings from criminal barristers.
