Asda has found a new legal director in Tesco’s trading law and technical director who in turn has been replaced by a Safeway in-house lawyer.
Asda’s appointment of John Longworth, who was with Tesco for 12 years, follows the surprise move of the supermarket’s longstanding legal director and company secretary Denise Jagger to Eversheds.
As exclusively revealed on www.thelawyer.com/lawyernews on January 5, Jagger left the supermarket chain in December and will take up partnership at Eversheds where she will help develop the firm’s client relationship management programme.
Longworth’s new position is an executive board role in which he will be responsible for legal, corporate affairs and corporate responsibility, as well as assuming the role of company secretary.
His position at Tesco will be taken over by Safeway’s group technical director Lyz Kinoch who will join the supermarket chain on January 15.
