The way has been paved for East Kent Health Authority to be sued by a 46-year-old former policeman who claims an operation to remove varicose veins was botched. William West of Dover is suing the authority over the effects of the operation carried out at Thanet General Hospital in December 1985. Initially the Health Authority had contested the claim on the basis West had left it too late to sue. However, the authority, which denies liability, dropped that argument halfway through a recent hearing to decide whether West was entitled to continue with the case.
