Tulkinghorn’s preferred mode of transport is his own two legs – he doesn’t trust these modern aeroplanes. And Speechly Bircham IP chief Robert Bond would probably agree after enjoying a harrowing trip to Minneapolis during the storm season in the US last week.
Bond spent five hours stuck on the runway in New York and complains that he was only served water – presumably a gin and tonic or two would have helped pass the time more comfortably.
Finally the flight got underway, but a storm followed Bond and his fellow passengers across several states before they were forced to land in Cleveland, Ohio.
But despite this nightmare journey, a raddled and annoyed Bond still managed to return a call from one of Tulkinghorn’s scribes – at 5am Ohio time. Tulkinghorn supposes Bond is now one of the few fans of British weather.
