Stevens & Bolton
UK 200 position: 120
Guildford firm Stevens & Bolton’s turnover increased by 2.9 per cent in 2011–12 to £17.6m, a considerably smaller increase than the 12.5 per cent rise the previous year.
Nonetheless, corporate work contributed a higher proportion of last year’s turnover than the previous year, up from 24 per cent to 27 per cent. This was mainly due to the increasingly international flavour of much of Stevens & Bolton’s work.
While the firm has no formal international alliances, it is receiving an increasing number of referrals from foreign firms, particularly across Europe.
In August 2011 Stevens & Bolton was among a select number of firms to be reappointed to Veolia Environnement's regional legal panel.
Average profit per equity partner nudged up from £310,000 to £312,000 in 2011–12, which is line with a slight increase in net profit from £5.1m to £5.3m. The firm has operated the same largely merit-based partner remuneration system, which includes some lockstep elements, for more than a decade.
