Standard Chartered has promoted James Ellington to replace David Brimacombe as group head of legal.
Ellington takes over from Brimacombe, who transferred to Dubai to help drive the bank's position in the Gulf as head of legal and compliance for Africa, Pakistan, the Middle East and Europe.
Ellington told The Lawyer: "I've been in this department for a while now, so I'm aware of the way it operates. For the time being I'm looking at heading in more of the same direction as David Brimacombe and continuing his good work."
Ellington takes charge of the legal team of 25 lawyers while retaining his current role as the bank's legal chief of M&A.
