Standard Bank Offshore has appointed Mourant Ozannes senior associate Lionel Woodward as its first legal head.
Woodward, who was promoted to senior associate in May 2010, will be based in the bank’s Jersey base. Before joining Mourant’s corporate and finance team he had spells at Berwin Leighton Paisner and Bishop Sewell, and trained with Johannesburg firm Bell Dewar & Hall.
Standard Bank Offshore - the offshore branch of South African-based Standard Bank - has offices in Jersey, Isle of Man and Mauritius.
Standard Bank Jersey chief executive Russell Harte said: “Lionel’s experience specialising in international financing transactions, as well as corporate banking, mergers and acquisitions and regulatory matters, will stand him in good stead for this challenging new role within Standard Bank.
“His input and direction will be invaluable to ensuring the offshore business operates within a robust legal control framework and we welcome him on board.”
