Squire Sanders & Dempsey has launched a dedicated commercial litigation practice in London with the capture of a partner from Bryan Cave.
Rod Cowper started today (17 September) having left Bryan Cave last Friday.
Cowper said Squire Sanders already had lawyers handling arbitration and litigation in London, but that his hire was aimed at focusing and growing that capability. Cowper joins as head of litigation in London, a new role for Squire Sanders.
Last August Bryan Cave and Squire Sanders broke off merger talks, but the attraction of a more international network evidently proved too much of a pull for Cowper.
"I'm excited by the global reach Squire Sanders has and what that means in terms of international dispute resolution," explained Cowper.
Cowper's exit leaves Bryan Cave with just one litigation partner, Paul Hauser, in London.
