Squire Sanders & Dempsey’s Beijing head has been elected as the American Chamber of Commerce’s (AmCham’s) new China chairman.
James Zimmerman’s one-year term at the helm of the chamber begins 1 January 2007. Zimmerman is managing partner of Squire Sanders’ Beijing office.
Squire Sanders chairman Thomas Stanton said in a statement: “Jim’s role in the US business community in China underscores the commitment of Squire Sanders to the China market and to our clients with operations in China.”
Zimmerman is also the co-chair of AmCham’s legal committee and was formerly the chair of the China law committee for the American Bar Association’s international section.
AmCham China represents US companies and individuals doing business in the People’s Republic of China. It has more than 2,100 members from more than 900 companies.
Squire Sanders has had a presence in Beijing since 1980, and received one of the first licenses issued to a foreign law firm in 1993 under the name Graham & James.
