Sporting lawyers added to SDRP board

The Sports Dispute Resolution Panel (SDRP) appointed four independent directors to its management board today (29 June).

Peter Crystal, Memery Crystal’s founder and corporate finance and sports partner, joins as a non-executive director after fending off 100 rivals for the position.

Former Lovells partner Ros Reston and Clarke Willmottsports partner Trevor Watkins will also be taking non-executive director roles.

The three lawyers are to be joined by the chair of planning for the 2007 European Hockey Championships Andy Tapley.

The directors will help set SDRP’s vision, values and strategic plans, and scrutinise company performance and decision-making.

SDRP chair Gerard Elias QC of Farrar’s Building also invited Sara Friend, legal director at the British Olympic Association, and Di Ellis, chairman of the Amateur Rowing Association, to join him and executive director Ed Procter on SDRP’s new look management board.

Elias said: “We aim to raise awareness of the real value of SDRP to the whole sporting community and ensure that we have in place a referral body capable of sensitively meeting the challenges for all sport UK wide that is ready for the build up to London 2012.”
