Yeovil firm Porter Bartlett & Mayo and Taunton practice Dodson Harding have merged to form a new 25-partner firm, Porter Dodson, which places it among the top 10 firms in the south west.
The new firm has 56 lawyers in total and has 10 offices spread throughout the region. Robert Fox, a partner with the practice and previously with Porter Bartlett, said the new firm had a better and more balanced geographical spread. He explained: "Dodsons was basically spread north to south in Somerset along the M5 and Porter Bartlett went west to east from Somerset to Dorset."
The new firm is also promoting its combined 17-strong commercial team which will give it more flexibility to deal with larger work, said Fox.
Porter Dodson will retain two main offices in Taunton and Yeovil and there will be no relocation of people within the firm. There are two new "executive partners" at the head of the firm - Porter Bartlett's Hugh Privett and Dodson Harding's Michael Lloyd-Davies.
One legal recruitment specialist in the region said that the two firms were "not the most progressive in the area", but had come together in a "nice simple little merger".
