South Square installs new chambers director, loses silk to BLP

Gray’s Inn set South Square has appointed Ron Barclay-Smith as chambers director following the departure of chief executive Caoilionn Hurley.

Hurley joined South Square last November to replace senior practice director Paul Cooklin, who joined Keating Chambers as director of clerking (27 January 2010). It is not known where Hurley has moved on to.

Barclay-Smith joins the set from 9 Gough Square as South Square suffers the exit of a second commercial silk within six months.

Berwin Leighton Paisner (BLP) has appointed Stuart Issacs QC as an equity partner to develop its in house advocacy unit. Issacs, who divided his time between London and Singapore at South Square, will continue to spend time in the foreign jurisdiction.

In May, insolvency silk Lexa Hilliard QC left chambers to join Lincoln’s Inn set 11 Stone Buildings (9 May 2011).
