One of South Korea’s ‘big four’ law firms, Kim & Chang, is set to launch in Hong Kong after receiving a licence from local authorities.
Seoul-headquartered Kim & Chang will launch an office in Hong Kong in the near future after receiving a licence to practise as a registered foreign law office.
The office will be led by US-qualified Alex Yang, a financial services specialist who was previously a partner at Ernst & Young in Hong Kong. Before that, Yang worked at Morgan Stanley, also in Hong Kong.
Yang told The Lawyer: “We just received the licence as a registered foreign law office and [are] in the process of setting up the legal entity.”
With around 800 attorneys working at the firm, Kim & Chang is one of Korea’s ‘big four’ practices along with Lee & Ko, Kim & Lee and Shin & Kim Bae.
