South East NHS trusts join forces to appoint £3m panel

Firms including Barlow Lyde & Gilbert (BLG), Beachcroft and Weightmans have been appointed to a new legal panel providing advice to 27 NHS trusts in Surrey, Sussex and Kent.

The South East Coast Collaborative Procurement Hub, launched in April last year, influences the spend of more than £1bn a year. At least £3m of this is expected to be spent on legal advice.

The new panel is split into seven sub-groups covering employment, health law, NHS governance and public law, PFI projects, corporate and commercial, primary care, property, and an eighth group for miscellaneous advice.

The appointments cover a two-year period.

Other firms that made it on to the list are Kent firm Brachers, London’s Capsticks, Abingdon-based employment specialist Cater Leydon Millard, London-based healthcare specialist Hempsons and Bristol-based Bevan Brittan.

Tony Yeaman, head of healthcare at Weightmans, said: “The NHS landscape is changing and trusts are faced with growing financial pressures. We understand these pressures and I am extremely confident in what we can offer.”

Last year Weightmans also won places on the Council for Healthcare Regulatory Excellence panel and the Healthcare Purchasing Consortium panel.

BLG, Beachcroft, Bevan Brittan, Capsticks, Hempsons and Weightmans won places in all eight sub-groups. Brachers was appointed to every group except PFI, while Cater Leydon Millar will handle only employment work.
