Sour grapes over vineyard

A planning dispute is heading back to court on 14 June. A couple from Shropshire who run the "Roman Vineyard" at Wroxeter, on the site of an old Roman vineyard, are challenging the view of their local authority and the Environment Secretary that they need additional planning consent if they want to sell wine grown at their Shropshire vineyard. Last year, the High Court backed the view of the local authority and the Environment Secretary that they need additional consent, but the couple have now been given leave to appeal that decision. The case hinges on whether the wine sales are to be classed for the purposes of planning law as part of an ongoing "agricultural" or "industrial" process. If agricultural no additional consent would be needed.
