Sony Picture Television (SPT) has hired Wiggin consultant Richard Parsons as senior vice-president for corporate business and legal affairs.
In his new role Parsons, a former legal director of Elisabeth Murdoch’s Shine Group and BBC Worldwide (28 January 2011), is expected primarily to manage acquisitions, joint ventures and strategic partnerships for Sony’s international production arm.
Parsons most recently served as a consultant for UK media boutique Wiggin though an insider said that, as a consultant, it was expected he would move on once the right role came along.
He was director of corporate finance and legal at BBC Worldwide between 2002 and 2011, when he left for Shine Group, the independent TV production company behind MasterChef and One Born Every Minute. He has also worked in private equity at Clifford Chance and as legal director at GE Capital Europe.
The London-based role will see Parson’s report to Sony’s Los Angeles-based executive vice-president Corri Berg, a former corporate associate for Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom, when he joins the company later this month.
Parsons was not available for comment at the time of writing.
