This year, The Lawyer’s annual ranking of the largest UK law firms by turnover is available as an interactive, digital benchmarking tool. For the first time this will allow you to manipulate each data set against the metrics of your choice.
Taylor Wessing is planning to offer its trainees international opportunities within the next year, with Asia a particular focus.
The top 20 UK firm has offices all over the world but has retained a domestic focus for its trainee scheme until now.
Graduate recruitment partner Tim Worden said: “It’s a question we get from trainees a lot. We’re conscious of that and we’re working very hard to make that a possibility. We’re confident that within one year we will send one trainee overseas.”
He added that the most likely office for an overseas secondment would be Singapore, due to the similarities in legal systems and legal education between the two countries, but said that the decision was not confirmed.
Taylor Wessing’s global revenue grew by 7 per cent over the last financial year while UK revenue rose by 3 per cent. However Worden said that the firm had no plans to increase its trainee intake. The firm currently takes on between 22 and 24 trainees each year.
He said: “We have a relatively small intake compared to our peers but that is because we want to give our trainees early responsibility and we want associates who are confident when they walk into a department on qualification.”
The firm opened offices in Bratislava, Brno, Budapest, Kiev, Klagenfurt, Prague, Singapore, Vienna and Warsaw during the 2012/13 financial year. The openings were facilitated by its alliances with Singapre’s RHT (9 March 2012) and its merger with Austrian-headquartered ENWC (4 May 2012).
During the same period, it made 15 lateral partner hires and 16 partner promotions, although only one partner was made up in London (29 May 2013).
Taylor Wessing was named Law Firm of the Year at The Lawyer Awards earlier this week (26 June 2013).
