Herbert Smith Freehills will extend its international secondment network to cover its Australian offices, allowing trainees in London and Hong Kong to visit the jurisdiction.
The firm will also start seconding young Australian lawyers to its other offices.
Large London player Herbert Smith merged with Australian firm Freehills in October 2012 to create a firm of 2,800 lawyers spread across 20 offices worldwide.
Establishing an international secondment programme for both UK and Australian trainees has been one of a number of post-merger integration projects across the firm over the last two years.
Australia managing partner Jason Ricketts said: “Since many of our clients and their projects are global, we need lawyers with an international mindset to deal with the complex elements of cross-border matters.
“The secondments provide lawyers with valuable experience working in an international office, building their internal network and improving firm integration.”
