SNR Denton has announced that it is entering into an association with local lawyer Jamal Ahmed Al-Shehab, replacing its existing association with International Legal Group (ILG).
Under the new association the firm will be known as The Law Office of Al-Shehab & Partners in association with SNR Denton.
The move follows an unsettled period for the firm’s Kuwait City office, following the October 2011 resignation of office managing partner David Pfeiffer, who left to spearhead the launch of Curtis Mallet-Prevost Colt & Mosle’s new office in Kuwait (6 March 2012).
In March 2012 Abu Dhabi energy partner Stuart Cavet was appointed as Kuwait managing partner, relocating there to take up the role (20 March 2012).
In June 2012 the firm’s Middle East managing partner resigned for personal reasons shortly after the firm appointed him to the leadership role as part of a strategy overhaul (19 June 2012).
The new association follows Al-Shehab’s return to private practice, having recently retired from his post at the Kuwaiti Government.
Commenting on the new venture, Al-Shehab said: ‘After my time serving Kuwait and the Kuwaiti people through visionary emir and his governments, I’m looking forward to a return to practice and to working closely with SNR Denton in providing an enhanced service to existing and future clients in Kuwait and the wider region.’
Cavet will continue in his role as office managing partner and added that Al-Shehab’s experience would be highly valued: “The legal expertise, combined with the in-depth knowledge of the local market, that Jamal Al-Shehab brings to SNR Denton will enable us to take full advantage of the opportunities in this growing market.
“We thank ILG for their support and collaboration over the past five years. We wish our former colleagues there all the best for the future. Meanwhile, there are a number of ongoing matters on which we’ll continue to work together.”
SNR Denton has had an office in Kuwait since 2008.
