Studio Legale Sutti (SLS) has announced major plans for expansion into eastern Europe.
Talks have begun in the former eastern bloc countries and the firm expects to make an announcement at the end of the year. The Italian firm is considering establishing its own satellite offices in Sofia, Prague, Bucharest and possibly Tirana.
Lawyers taken on from local firms and in-house teams will be used to advise on each country's law, though no major buyouts are anticipated.
The offices will provide international services to local clients and legal advice to SLS's Italian clients developing market opportunities in the region.
Speculation that Lovells could be interested in merging with the Milan firm were also confirmed. SLS already has its own office in London, which provides a one-stop-shop offering advice on Italian law to the legal sector.
