Slaughter and May will boost its Paris finance team this summer by relocating Andrew Maclean, who is currently on secondment at best friend Hengeler Mueller, to the French capital.
Paris focuses on bank rather than borrowers work to a much greater extent than Slaughters' core London finance practice.
The firm's managing partner Tim Clark said: "Paris generates quite a lot of its own clients. We act for a number of banks. We wanted to build the resources on the financing side."
Clark said that the practice also focuses on getting referrals from independent French firms which need UK finance law advice. More than 80 per cent of the work handled in Slaughters' Paris office is French law-based. However, Clark said: "We're not going to compete with them [the independent French law firms] for their major clients."
Maclean will be replaced in Frankfurt in July by London finance partner Richard Levitt.
