Slaughter and May is acting for longstanding client Punch Taverns in a takeover bid for Mitchell & Butlers (M&B) that would create the UK's largest pub group.
Slaughtes' team is being led by partners David Johnson and Kathryn Davis. Slaughters started acting for Punch when it was first formed and followed the company through its 2002 flotation.
Punch tabled an offer on 4 February for M&B, which runs the Harvester and All Bar One Chains. Allen & Overy is representing M&B, which is also thought to be receiving approaches from a range of private equity houses.
