Slaughter and May names new Hong Kong senior partner

Slaughter and May’s incumbent Hong Kong senior partner Richard Thornhill will retire from the firm on 30 January with partner Peter Brien taking over the role.

Thornhill joined Slaughters’ London office in 1977 and became a partner in 1986. He relocated from London to Hong Kong in 1990 and has been there since. He was appointed senior partner of Hong Kong in 1991.

Thornhill has been involved in a wide range of corporate and commercial work both in London and Hong Kong representing clients such as British & Commonwealth, Swire Pacific and MTR. He has helped Slaughters develop a strong practice in Asia and has played a key role in advising on some of the firm’s most significant transactions in Hong Kong.

Senior partner-elect Brien relocated from the firm’s London office to Hong Kong in 2012. Prior to his relocation, he had spent a number of years in Hong Kong. He is qualified in both Hong Kong and English law and focuses on corporate, M&A, equity capital markets and structured finance.
