Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom has taken on the general counsel of French pharmaceutical company Sanofi-Synthelabo for its Paris office.
Joining as a partner in the mergers and acquisitions department, Laurent Cohen-Tanugi was a member of Sanofi’s executive committee as well as the company’s general counsel.
Cohen-Tanugi handled the unsolicited public bid for Aventis which completed this summer. However, as revealed by The Lawyer in August, he lost the role of general counsel for the merged company to his opposite number at Aventis, general counsel Dirk Oldenburg.
The hire will boost Skadden’s French corporate capability. The firm has advised on several of the largest deals in France this year, including the Euro6.2bn privatisation of France Telecom.
