Skadden set to launch in Brazil" />Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom announced today (Tuesday 18 March) that it is opening an office in São Paulo, Brazil.
M&A partner Jonathan Bisgaier, a corporate partner and fluent Portuguese speaker, will be the resident head of the São Paulo office. Bisgaier's recent deals include representing Banco Pactual in its $3.1bn sale to UBS and its joint venture negotiations with Goldman Sachs.
Bisgaier has also provided general corporate advice to a number of leading Latin American companies such as Grupo Vitro, Grupo Gigante and Jugos Del Valle. He will work with Paul Schnell, the New York-based head of Skadden's Latin America practice on the new office.
In a statement, Skadden's executive partner, Bob Sheehan said a physical presence in Latin America signalled to the firm's existing and future clients its commitment to handling their most critical legal needs in the region.
"Our new base in Brazil will enable us to provide better service to our clients," added Sheehan.
Skadden has had a dedicated Latin American practice group for almost 20 years although it has grown significantly recently across a wide range of industries and practice areas such as M&A, corporate finance, project finance and banking.
In two of the last six years, Skadden was ranked by Thomson Financial as the top firm in the world for Latin America M&A transactions.
