Allen & Overy (A&O) has been rocked by the shock resignation of finance partner Clive Wells.
It was confirmed today (2 December) that Wells handed in his notice yesterday and will be joining Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom. Wells joined A&O alongside Andrew Bamber, Tim Polglase and Robin Harvey from Norton Rose in 2002.
Confirming the departure, an A&O spokesperson said: “”Clive Wells has decided to leave Allen & Overy to join Skadden Arps. Clive has made a great contribution during his time with A&O and we wish him all the best in his new role.”
Wells is the latest in a string of partners to leave A&O in since the start of the month. In October heavy hitting leverage finance partner Tony Keal quit the magic circle firm to join Simpson Thacher & Bartlett after falling out with management.
Wells is the second high profile partner to join Skadden’s London office in recent weeks. Last week the US firm hired Shearman & Sterling corporate rainmaker Adrian Knight.
Skadden declined to comment.
